My Brother-in-Law is a phenomenal sailor. In his second Singlehanded Transpac Race, he left San Francisco Bay on June 30, 2012 and his destination being Hanalei Bay. He’s still out there racing and you can follow his blog and track his race as well. The name of his boat is Rushmoore. Note: If you go to the tracking site, scroll over each boat to view names and drop and drag mouse to move ocean scene.
What an exciting adventure! Go Ruben!!!
Below is info I copied from his blog and can be found here. Photos sources unknown at this time.
“This is Ruben’s second Singlehanded Transpac, his first race was in 2008 aboard Sparky, a 22 foot Pearson Electra. He sailed fast and hard for the first half of the race and for the second half he sailed even harder.
680 miles from beautiful Hanalei Bay, he was dismasted. This slowed him down a bit, but it didn’t stop him. Through courage, determination and just plain strength, Ruben created 3 phases of a jury rig which carried him over the finish line 28 days from the start of the race. Our dear friend and 2008 competitor Robert Crawford, tells the story in his book, Black Feathers: A Pocket Racer Sails The Singlehanded TransPac. You can also view videos and read about it here.”
