95120 Almaden Lifestyle Magazine Editorial Head Shot – San Jose & Bay Area Model & Professional Head Shot Photographer

Have you seen the latest issue of 95120 Almaden Lifestyle Magazine? The magazine was delivered last month to homes and businesses in the Almaden area. You can find copies at Tacos Al Pastor, UnWined Wine Shop & Bar and The Studio Salon & Boutique just to name a few.

Each month I look forward to photographing Chrissy and especially excited to see what she will be wearing. The dress and accessories were chosen by Jill Amen, of The Studio Salon & Boutique and Chrissy’s Mod Rolling Wave “look” was created by Christina Cotton, also a hair stylist from The Studio Salon & Boutique. Each time I visit the boutique I can’t help but walk out with a few things and practicing self control is very difficult there! I double dare you to walk in and see if you can walk out empty handed, I bet you can’t! You’ve read my previous blog posts but I’ll tell you again how much I enjoy the staff there. Everyone is so nice and Jill Amen is always so helpful. She knows I hate to shop, yes there are a bunch of us out there who would rather be doing other things, but when she knows I’m dropping in she has clothes lined up and ready for me to try on. I call her my personal shopper. She knows what works well with my skin color, my size and most importantly she knows my style. Go check out The Studio Salon & Boutique and tell Jill I sent you. You will not be disappointed!

Dawn Clarkson/Cosmetologist Extraordinaire {The Studio Salon & Boutique} – Professional Head Shots

I would like to introduce the very beautiful, intelligent and super duper nice person Dawn Clarkson. Dawn and I were introduced in 1992 as new members of the Almaden Valley Women’s Club. Fast forward to this year, Dawn is Chair of the 37th Almaden Valley Art & Wine Festival, to be held on September 15, 2013 at Almaden Lake Park. She is also Corporate Sponsor Chair and City Liason for the festival and if that weren’t enough to keep her busy she also is founder of Top Dog Rescue. On a personal level Dawn is one of those people you always see smiling, never has a mean thing to say about anyone and someone who lights up the room when she walks in. She wasn’t sure what to write when I asked for her Bio so I asked her a few questions.

1. What are your hobbies & things you enjoy doing?
I love running and have competed in several half marathons. I especially love destination races. I’ve traveled to Tennessee, LA, Oregon, and am going to North Carolina next year.
2. Tell me about Top Dog Rescue… My little non-profit is Top Dog Rescue. It’s really just me rescuing dogs mostly from the Merced Shelter. I fund everything and am going through the red-tape of making it an official non-profit rescue group.
3. Any pets and their names?
I am crazy about dogs and do a lot of rescue from the Merced Shelter. I currently own a hound/lab mix named Maytag and a doxie/terrier mix named Rue.
4. How did you become a hair stylist(what is the correct term)?
I became a Cosmetologist because I love hearing about people and believe in possibilities.
5. If you could have lunch with anyone who would you choose, dead or alive?
Who would I have lunch with??!! There are so many that have passed…my Grandmother’s, my good friend Anita….just to have the precious time back and tell them how much I miss them and share how much I’ve learned. Jesus and Buddha would be good ones too! Oh, maybe former Pres. George Bush.
You can book your appointments with Dawn at The Studio Salon & Boutique / 6485 Camden Avenue / San Jose, CA 95120 / (408) 997-8151 /

Meet Amalia, My New Office/Photography Assistant

Some of you may already have met my new assistant at a photo shoot or wedding.  I had asked Amalia to write a simple Bio of herself so that I could announce her as my new assistant.  I took it upon myself to write up a super hilarious Bio for her but we had to edit 99% out.  She said, “I don’t know what to say and I don’t want to brag about myself.”  I know how she feels because it does feel a little like bragging when I talk about myself too.  It’s rare but give me a few lemon drops and I can go on and on about how good I think I am!  Ha ha, I’m only joking.

So being the shy gal that she is, {not}, I will brag for her.   Amalia is attending school at this time taking photography & culinary classes.  Two of the top things I really enjoy doing and a couple of the many reasons why I really like her and why we get along so well.   Her full time job is taking care of her four rather good looking and not to mention very busy kids.  Amalia is an awesome assistant, friend and cook and this I know first hand because she is also my neighbor.  She is so thoughtful and kind!  A handful of times when I was home solo she just popped over and brought some pretty tasty dinners.  Amalia, you’re welcome to bring them over any time.  We had met a few times for basic social media and other photography related software training and she caught on so quickly.  I am relieved that I can ask Amalia to do something and know that it will get done especially when I am away from my computer or traveling.  Amalia really enjoys working with me because she told me so and that I am the coolest boss ever!  No really, she said this to me!!! Well anyway,  Amalia looks forward to meeting you at an upcoming photo shoot or via email.

I’m so glad she’s my neighbor and I’m looking forward to many photo shoots,  good times in the kitchen/backyard bbq’s and I’m really looking forward to tasting her cakes soon!  She just took on another culinary class: decorating cakes/wedding cakes.  Thank you Amalia for all that you do for me!

Marjorie Moehrke Professional Mobile Marketer – Bay Area Professional Head Shots

A tireless volunteer leader and effective communicator with a wicked sense if humor.
Who Gets involved and is not afraid to take a leadership position when necessary.
I See things through from start to finish.
People see me as detailed and organized, this is only partly true…hmmm.

I Met Charlene while at Williams school. I was the class volunteer where her child was in the same class, and also ran the afterschool program PAWS.
From there, I worked in the school office as an attendance clerk. After a few years, and several budget cuts, I worked for Graystone school in the office.

About the time I was working at Graystone, my friend Patti Gahagan was starting a local chapter of the American Cancer Society‘s Relay for Life in Almaden.
And I was hooked!!
I was the Online coordinator for several years, team captain, and finally was the Chairperson for one year.  Through those years, I got to know Charlene better because of her commitment to this great cause as well. And we have been friends ever since.

After Relay, I became more involved with the National Kidney Foundations Walk in San Jose. With my experience with the Online portion of fundraising, and being the chairperson, I was a natural fit to help NKF become more successful. Besides, I had a kidney transplant in August of 1999 so it was something that was very personal to me. I am the family team coordinator to help young teams raise more funds within their teams.  Each year, I gather my family and friends and we raise needed funds since Kidney disease isn’t well known.

In fact, the doctors really don’t know how I ended up in Kidney failure. But when I was pregnant with my son, they discovered that my kidneys were not working correctly.
I was so fortunate to receive a cadaver donor, perfect match kidney at Stanford Hospital.  My team name each year is Marjs Lucky Friday the 13th Team.

I also am involved with Silicon Valley Cares, a relatively new non profit that raises money for under served non profits within Santa Clara county.  I am the Secretary for the Board where my abilities are helpful to keep track of what has been said.

I worked as a Community Liasion for a Non medical Homecare agency called Visiting Angels San Jose for a few years. I loved helping families keep their parents living in their homes safely.  It was also emotionally taxing to see how some of our elderly were living. I always brought them a smile even if they didn’t have one.

The common thread in any volunteer or paid jobs I’ve had over these last years is service to others. The more I’m helping others, the happier I am.

This year, I started my own company, still untitled to date but I am a Project Marketing Manager. Using my effective writing skills, strong verbal communications, I interview small business owners and promote their work online to raise their search results on Google. I work with companies that manage websites and need content writers such as myself. I love to learn about each new business and get inside their world to see why they do the business they do. In other words, I tell their story.

Sometimes, when you have a small business, you are so busy gaining business, paying the bills, and seeing the clients, you forget to tell your story.  Google searches are key to business these days so content writers help small businesses stay on top of the free Web searches.

Married to my high school sweetheart Chris who is still wonderful to me after all these years. I have one son who is recently graduated from college. I have two kitties and 14 koi.
