San Jose Photographer Giving Back to the Community | San Jose Photographer Helping The Community

I was asked to write up a little share of how I give back to the community.

A memory I have when I was a little girl has been embedded in me forever. Our family had little and I remember strangers reaching out to give to us food and clothing during the holidays. I have four sisters and times were very hard for my parents. Fast forward to today and I am blessed to be able to give back to the community both personally and through my photography business.

I am a member of several non-profit organizations. I have met many, many wonderful women who are all strong minded, some own their own businesses and are such wonderful givers themselves that I am proud to belong to these groups.

Alamden Valley Women’s Club
I have been a member since 2002. When I moved into this community I wanted to meet people. I heard about this wonderful organization at my children’s school, attended a meeting and signed up as a member. I have learned so much from this group! Of course one can just be a member and help out but I decided I was going all in and joined the board and chaired almost every position available for their annual Art & Wine Festival. The Art & Wine Festival is a family event where you can purchase wonderful hand made art from hundreds of local vendors, taste wine and beer from local wineries and breweries and of course a huge play area for the children to get their faces painted, hair braided, create art and have a great time! I forgot about the live entertainment where you can sip your beer or wine and enjoy the local talent. The funds raised from the festival are given to local non-profits and scholarships for high school seniors. Over the years I’ve donated portrait sessions to their Silent Auction, photographed their scholarship recipients as well as their Festival and Board Member group portraits.

Below I had a booth at last years Art & Wine Festival and also below is a group pic of their 2017 Board Members.

Relay For Life of Almaden
My very good friend brought Relay For Life to Almaden in 2008. We were really excited about it and unfortunately a year later, my friend was diagnosed with breast cancer. Today, we all know someone who is either diagnosed or affected by cancer in some way. At the time I created my team, Team Charlie’s Angels, I didn’t really know of anyone who had cancer but wanted to help the fight against cancer. I later learned of several friends who were diagnosed and a couple who passed. My dad had also been diagnosed and now he is fully in remission. To date our Team Charlie’s Angels has raised over $20,000. My good girlfriend Tracy Cressio, who is an amazing giver, created an awesome event – Rockin The Rack. Rockin The Rack takes place every year at The Saddle rack in Fremont and for a small fee, all donated to Relay For Life, you can see live bands througout the evening and there is also a silent auction of amazing things to purchase. What a great way to give back!

Silicon Valley Cares
This non-profit formed 8 years ago. My good friend Kelly Dippel, who is a super talented go getter, wanted a fun group of strong like minded ladies to network, be social and while doing so raise funds to help the community. I have been a member since day one and help give back in so many ways. This group put on the Broomstick Ball event every year which is a costumed ball event with live and silent auction, dinner and dancing and a costume contest. I’ve attended all but two years because I was out of town on both dates. Our next Broomstick Ball event will take place October 14, 2017 at The Valencia Hotel’s ballroom. I’m super excited about this event!!!

Parents Helping Parents
PHP helps families who have children of any age with special needs. PHP’s staff receive calls from families having children from infancy through their child’s adulthood into their 50’s and 60’s! It is never too late to call PHP! Adult siblings who have responsibility for the care of their sibling with a disability call PHP, too.
One of my good friends who worked there at the time called upon my services for a marketing piece they were working on. I gladly helped out by donating my time to photograph some families and children.
Below is one page of the brochure they had printed.
